We went to see the mighty LOTUS CIRCLE in Manchesters legendary dry bar at the second round of Surface unsigned 08 here follows a review by surface08 a review by Paul their goddam harmonica player and i small rambling from me and of course i reveal what flavour they are....
Review from Surface 08
"Absolutely mental! Two words to describe this final set from alternative rockers Lotus Circle. Not content with the already swelling crowd, the band seemed to have brought an army with them. No, literally; an Army. Dressed like Spartans, wearing plastic helmets and waving inflatable swords the crowd swarmed up against the stage chanting the band's name throughout the set. Crowdsurfers attempted to launch themselves into the madness, people were getting pushed onto the stage as the band just lapped it up and fed off the energy like vultures at an abbatoir. A mixture of demented harmonica, electric violin, funky rhythmic guitar and vocals that would have made the entire cast of 300 proud, they created as much mayhem as their eager followers. Watch out Britain, because Lotus Circle are coming – and they're taking no prisoners."
Review from band member Paul
"In case you weren't in Manchester on Thursday night, I'd just like you to know that you missed out on the most unhinged Lotus Circle gig in a long and distinguished career of unhinged gigs. I don't think I've ever experienced anything like it. Thank you thank you thank you to the massed ranks of Spartan warriors for being the craziest, most terrifyingly hilarious bunch of raging psychos ever to have been kind enough to have turned up at one of our shows. I never thought I'd see the day I'd be scared of our own following, but I swear that when I was stood behind that stage waiting to go on the roar that was coming in from the other side was enough to make my blood freeze with terror. God only knows what the other bands were thinking, but if I'd been playing against a band with a following like that, I would've packed it in there and then.

TUESDAY SAYS
Firstly let me tell you a little about the competition it is marked on different levels including performance, audience votes and text votes but interestingly each band is also assigned 25 tickets , when these are sold they can apply for 25 more , Lotus circle having sold there 50 tickets for the first round of the competition (unlike other applicants ) managed to sell 100 tickets. these they sold to their fans who arrived in 2 coaches from Blackpool on a thursday night! , the fans were dressed as Spartans and the atmosphere they created was amazing, totally focused in supporting their band,
The performance started when the band went on stage for a sound check and the announcer basically didn't have to do any announcing. It was amazing
the band has a unique and almost unclassified sound rock/funk/folk with a bit of mental maybe , the stage was tiny and the band was huge including a violin , 2 guitars a bass guitar, drums, 2 vocalists and a harmonica player they shared microphones and basically stood in 2 rows of 3 (this was all the stage would allow) musically they were excellent , the female singer dressed in a burlesque corset has a crackin pair of lungs on her and did a good wailing number that would of given the wailer in pink flloyd a run for her money , the lead singer semi naked under a military style jacket conducts the crowd with ease , at times with a slightly mental look in his eye but still managing to look vaguely Jesus like.(maybe thats how jesus got his following) and the harmonica player painted red dressed as a arab terrorist i am sure is due a visit from the men in a white van.
they were excellent, throughly entertaining and totally tuneful. a flavour ...i think i'll have Pimms in a long glass...(why does it have the fruit in there...dunno but its great)
they are currently number one in the surface unsigned northwest chart and 3rd overall
Wol had said they are a fantastic live act and he is right
